Get Fit 5K | Race Report
This 5K, definitely, met my expectations.  It was small race put together by a friend's church as a fundraiser for something or another.  I did mail-in registration and the organizer emailed me to let me know that I was registered.  That was nice, since I was concerned, because I sent my registration in very late.  The race was held at the River Park Fitness Trail in Lompoc.  I had never been there before, but, evidently, it is a popular cross country course.  The race started at 9am.  I got there about 8:30, so I had plenty of time.  I went to the bathroom and checked in.  Then, I went and sat in my car for a few minutes.  Sara texted, so I found her and chatted for a bit.  She introduced me to a gal who I knew would be my competition.  She had the body of a woman who runs a lot.  She was skinny with fairly muscular legs and a bony upper body.  She brought a 16 year old cross country student, so I figured that between the two of them, I might have a bit of trouble.

I wasn’t wrong.  I never saw the young girl, but the middle age woman passed me at mile one.  I was able to stay close during mile two, but in the third mile widened her lead.  The course was mostly dirt and flat.  We had to run the same loop three times.  I had never done a race like that, but it turned out to be fine.  I came in second with the same time as usual:  22:10.  I really wanted to sub 22, but, between vacation and illness, I hadn’t run very much in the last three weeks.  I, certainly, wasn’t at my best, but I haven’t managed to sub 22 all year when I’ve had no excuses at all.  I had no reason to even hope for a sub 22 time, but I always do.

There was plenty of water and bag with some kind of bar in it.  Most importantly, the course was measured correctly.  Overall, it was a good race.
